Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in computer science (advanced degree is a plus)
- 4-6 years of experience in Linux system administration
- 2-4 years of general desktop, network, hardware, and software support experience
- Strong proficiency in managing and supporting Linux environments (SUSE, CentOS, Red Hat)
- Documented experience with Red Hat Satellite Server for automated patching and content management
- Capability to assess and implement alternative automated patching systems for enhanced efficiency and security
- Expertise in establishing effective monitoring solutions for Linux VMs
- Responsible for maintaining precise documentation of patching methods and configurations
- Proven ability to foster a collaborative environment with business, vendor, and technical teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team with limited oversight
Preferred:
- Familiarity with technologies like SaltStack and Spacewalk for systems management
- Skills in scripting languages such as Bash and Python for automation
- Cybersecurity experience, including virus detection and mitigation strategies
- Knowledge in security measures like networking, firewalls, and data encryption
- Experience with API interactions and XML-RPC for integration
- Understanding of software licensing mechanics
- Background in database administration
Responsibilities
- Setup, upgrade, configure, and manage automated patching for Linux servers and virtual machines using Uyuni and configuration management tools
- Maintain a schedule for patching all Linux servers and VMs
- Monitor server and application availability and proactively resolve issues
- Strategize, coordinate, and enforce network security measures to safeguard data and software
- Implement software upgrades and applications as necessary
- Recommend and execute modifications to enhance system and network configurations
- Conduct data backups, restores, and disaster recovery operations
- Review and maintain logs pertinent to network, application, and system activities
- Perform regular network and system startup and shutdown tasks while maintaining controls
- Collaborate with the IT team to reduce downtime and align patching efforts with broader IT strategies
- Design, configure, test, and sustain computer hardware and software systems
- Remain on-call 24/7 to address urgent IT requirements
- Complete additional tasks as directed by management
