Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline
- Over 5 years of experience in a hardware testing environment
- Familiarity with thermal chambers, thermal vacuum chambers, and/or vibration shakers
- Proven experience in writing test procedures, refining processes, and managing non-conformances
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Previous work in environmental testing, particularly in vibration, thermal ambient, and thermal vacuum settings (preferred)
- Knowledge of SMC-S-016, GSFC-STD-7000A, or comparable environmental testing standards (preferred)
- Experience in high-throughput manufacturing environments (preferred)
- Proficiency with PXI and various test instrumentation such as thermocouples, accelerometers, and data acquisition systems (preferred)
- Experience in successfully qualifying new products for space applications (preferred)
- Deep understanding of root cause analysis and associated methodologies, including Five Whys and Fishbone/Ishikawa Analysis (preferred)
Responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact for environmental test equipment and processes, overseeing test execution for spacecraft hardware
- Develop test procedures for spacecraft hardware and ensure readiness, addressing any issues that arise during testing phases (qualification and acceptance)
- Create standard operating procedures for environmental test technicians
- Enhance the efficiency of manufacturing test processes to maximize production output while minimizing workload and facilitating rapid transition from engineering development to high-rate production
- Identify areas for improvement and implement initiatives to ensure safe operations and maintain product quality, while minimizing lead time and labor hours through environmental testing
- Identify, execute, and qualify environmental testing equipment and processes to support high reliability and production throughput
- Troubleshoot issues in environmental testing workflows, identifying root causes (e.g., spacecraft hardware defects, test equipment anomalies, software issues), and apply permanent corrective measures
- Foster production independence by challenging current requirements, simplifying workflows, and introducing automation
- Serve as the technical expert in environmental test processes and equipment
- Innovate in test equipment automation to enhance efficiency and increase throughput of environmental testing processes
