Requirements

Must:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher. - Experience in managing Linux-based and Windows Server-based environments. - Familiar with network configurations (LAN) across Linux, Windows, MacOS, and network hardware like switches and routers. - Proficient in fundamental cybersecurity principles and system administration practices. - Knowledgeable about managing VMware-based virtual environments. - Acquainted with storage technologies such as iSCSI, NAS, and SAN. - Understanding of Active Directory management and security best practices. - Strong organizational and documentation skills. - Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic academic and research context. Preferred Qualifications: - A Bachelor's Degree or higher, with at least two years of experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. - A minimum of two years' experience in data center operations, virtualization, and/or high-performance computing (HPC) management. - Proven experience in managing high-performance computing clusters. - Scripting experience (Bash, PowerShell, Python, etc.) for automation purposes. - Previous experience within a higher education research computing setting. - Familiar with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solutions.

Responsibilities

As part of our Watson College Computing team, I will look to you to provide technical support for our academic and research computing needs. Key duties will include: - Administering both physical and virtual desktop infrastructure, providing support to faculty, staff, and students across all departments and schools in Watson College. - Maintaining academic computing labs for the School of Computing. - Assisting in the management of our Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment (Watson View) and ensuring documentation is developed and maintained with improvement recommendations. - Supporting data center operations, including maintaining comprehensive documentation of the data center environments, and assisting with the administration of the Watson College HPC Cluster (Spiedie) as well as the academic OpenHPC cluster. - Collaborating with faculty and staff to assess their computational academic and research needs and provide guidance accordingly. - Managing servers and storage systems, particularly those dedicated to different schools and departments within Watson College. - Ensuring a secure computing environment alongside the ITS Information Security Office. - Monitoring and managing high-performance computing cluster user accounts, coordinating updates, and working with faculty to integrate new computing nodes. - Providing technical assistance during emergencies or staff absences, and recommending improvements to existing procedures. - Supporting the coordination of new employee computer account integrations with ITS and managing Active Directory objects.
