Requirements

Must:
- I require a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience; or a master’s degree in a related field with 2 years of experience; or a PhD; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field. - I expect hands-on experience with commercial and open-source assessment tools, such as Elastic, Security Onion, Zeek, Suricata, and Wireshark. - Experience with the configuration management and modification of network devices (routers, switches) is essential. - You should have experience with the DoD Risk Management Framework and a strong understanding of networking and security concepts (TCP/IP stack, routing, firewalls, IDS, and IPS). - Familiarity with IP networking concepts such as virtual private networks, tunneling, layering, and defense in depth is required. - I need someone who understands commodity networking applications, including DNS and Active Directory. - Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to facilitate tool application is important. - You must have the ability to capture and analyze large amounts of network traffic and communicate technical concepts effectively to teammates. - An active Top Secret security clearance is mandatory. - Travel may be as frequent as two weeks every two months.

Responsibilities

- As a Network Security Analyst, I will expect you to lead a team to identify, analyze, and remediate vulnerabilities and issues on networks of interest. - You will conduct full packet capture (PCAP) collection and analysis, along with network device configuration interpretation and hardening by utilizing various cyber assessment toolkits. - I anticipate you will lead on-site surveys, mission planning, and deployment processes. - You’ll need to navigate within network infrastructures to isolate, characterize, and categorize network anomalies to determine root causes. - Writing reports to document your observations, remediation efforts, and recommended actions is also a key responsibility. - Collaboration with other Battelle teams will be essential, including simulating adversarial techniques in a lab environment. - Keeping track of the pedigree and veracity of collected data will be important. - You will research emerging trends in networking technology and related exploits. - Lastly, providing technical briefings on assessments, testing, or experimental results to key stakeholders and leadership is crucial.
