Requirements

Must:
- Over 10 years of experience in Azure cloud engineering and platform engineering roles. - At least 3 years in a Principal Engineer position, leading initiatives and providing direction to teams and partners. - Demonstrated experience delivering and managing Azure-based platforms or services in a production environment. - Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Engineering. - Extensive hands-on experience developing solutions on Microsoft Azure within large-scale or regulated settings. - Solid understanding of Azure networking, identity, access management, and governance. - Proven track record in designing systems for scalability, resilience, performance, and cost-effectiveness. - Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and maintain production Azure environments. - Proficient with Infrastructure as Code using Bicep, ARM, Terraform, or comparable technologies. - Experience in building and managing CI/CD pipelines for both infrastructure and application deployment. - Familiarity with IAM models, role definitions, and least-privilege access principles. - Experience with Azure API Management or related API gateway solutions. - Understanding of secure service exposure, authentication, rate limiting, and API lifecycle management. - Knowledge in designing service-based and event-driven architectures. - Familiarity with implementing monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational dashboards is a plus. - Understanding of SRE concepts such as SLIs, SLOs, and resilience patterns.

Responsibilities

- Design, build, and oversee Azure cloud infrastructure and shared platform services that support digital workloads. - Develop and improve Azure landing zones, subscriptions, networking, identity, and governance consistent with enterprise standards. - Create cloud-native solutions utilizing Azure PaaS services, containers, and managed platforms. - Ensure platforms fulfill requirements for scalability, resilience, performance, cost-effectiveness, and reusability. - Employ DevOps and SRE methodologies, including CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, and operational readiness. - Enable systems on Azure through secure, standardized platform capabilities. - Design and develop cloud-based architectures for diverse applications, incorporating API-driven and event-driven patterns. - Provide support for system patterns, including the orchestration of workflows. - Contribute to reference architectures and reusable components. - Design and maintain Infrastructure as Code utilizing Bicep, ARM, Terraform, or similar frameworks. - Create reusable, modular deployment frameworks that balance self-service options with governance requirements. - Automate environment provisioning, configuration, and policy enforcement across different environments. - Enable consistent deployment of AI-ready environments and services. - Incorporate security-by-design principles across identity, networking, encryption, secrets management, and auditability. - Implement secure service-to-service authentication using managed identities and least-privilege access protocols. - Ensure Azure cloud solutions adhere to security, privacy, data governance, and regulatory standards. - Collaborate on architecture reviews, risk assessments, and audits with security and risk teams. - Design platforms that include built-in observability, traceability, and operational controls by default.

We are seeking a Principal Azure Cloud Engineer who will take on a hands-on senior engineering role within our Azure cloud environment at BMO. This position is primarily centered around engineering cloud platforms and systems on Azure and entails designing and facilitating production-grade systems. We aim to build and operate secure, scalable Azure infrastructure and platform services to support digital workloads. You will join agile, cross-functional teams that include cloud engineering, data engineering, and security partners to advance BMOs Azure platforms. As a senior member, your influence will help define technical direction and architecture standards while also mentoring fellow engineers.
