Requirements
Must:
- A bachelors degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline with four years of relevant experience in datacenter or IT infrastructure engineering and operations
- Alternatively, a bachelors degree with eight years of relevant experience in the same fields
- Equivalent education and/or experience may be considered
- 20 years of experience in an infrastructure management role within a large-scale environment (preferred)
- Familiarity with mainframe systems technologies, subsystems, and internals, or substantial experience in AIX/Linux/Unix systems (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of IBM mainframe z/OS operating system, including control, structure, logic, and security (preferred)
- Capability to work independently, demonstrating problem-solving skills
- Proficient in communicating effectively, both in writing and verbally
- Strong organizational skills with a focus on time management and project status updates
- Aptitude for quickly learning new technologies and addressing challenges
- Excellent interpersonal abilities to thrive in a team-oriented setting (preferred)
Responsibilities
- Direct the daily operations of the Mainframe Systems team, ensuring team efficiency and compliance with service level agreements
- Provide guidance in z/OS administration, performance management, and configuration of hardware, along with implementing mainframe technologies and disaster recovery solutions
- Supervise daily monitoring of systems and escalate issues when necessary
- Lead initiatives surrounding disaster recovery procedures
- Research and apply strategic solutions for optimizing mainframe systems
- Ensure compliance with departmental technical policies
- Analyze system performance and capacity data
- Conduct performance and capacity planning on a daily, monthly, and yearly basis
- Manage projects involving hardware and software upgrades and mentor the Mainframe team to meet project deadlines
- Track and maintain mainframe software releases and collaborate with the team for software updates
- Build and nurture relationships with hardware and software vendors
- Serve as a liaison for capacity planning between the organization and vendors
- Stay updated on emerging technologies related to mainframe systems and evaluate their applicability to our needs
- Develop and oversee documentation regarding mainframe systems, ensuring accuracy and relevance in cooperation with the Operations team
- Create budget plans for hardware and software within the citys budget cycle, addressing end-of-life for hardware and new business requirements as well as capacity growth initiatives
