Requirements
Must:
- Advanced knowledge and significant experience in software engineering, establishing high skill levels in the field
- Proven capacity to work independently and supervise junior and journeyman staff in a technical or professional role
- In-depth understanding of software engineering standards, procedures, and practices, particularly in defense settings
- Extensive background in supporting DoD software development, encompassing architecture, implementation, testing, and sustainment of avionics or mission systems
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities
- U.S. citizenship with the capability to secure and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
- Masters degree in a relevant area plus 10 years of software experience, or a Bachelors degree in a relevant field with 20 years of software experience (including 5 in the DoD)
Responsibilities
- Offer technical leadership and mentorship to junior and journeyman engineering personnel in the software domain
- Direct and engage in comprehensive software engineering tasks throughout the full lifecycle, including design, development, integration, testing, and sustainment
- Utilize advanced knowledge of aeronautical vehicle systems and avionics Operational Flight Program (OFP) features to enhance mission-critical software development
- Create, examine, and maintain program documentation, such as software requirements, architecture/design specifications, and testing plans
- Assist in developing and implementing software strategies, lifecycle plans, and process enhancement initiatives
- Work in collaboration with cross-functional teams, including program management, engineering divisions, testing, and international partners
- Provide support at the program office, enterprise, and staff levels in alignment with DoD and USAF regulations
- Engage in and facilitate technical reviews, risk assessments, and design evaluations to uphold quality and conformity
- Ensure adherence to DoD and USAF acquisition, cybersecurity, and software engineering standards
- Mentor and support junior team members while advocating for engineering best practices and ongoing professional development
