Requirements
Must:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in software development and migration
- Proficient in PowerBuilder development, preferably with versions 10 to 12.6 or Appeon PB
- Strong SQL programming skills (T-SQL, PL/SQL) with expertise in database design and optimization
- Familiarity with SQL Server and ability to work with Azure SQL services
- Knowledge of client-server architectures and migration processes to cloud environments
- Experience in supporting lift and shift migrations from on-premises to Azure (highly preferred)
- Familiar with Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and Azure networking (VNets, VPN, ExpressRoute)
- Ability to identify dependencies and potential blockers in legacy applications
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, especially regarding legacy system behavior
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, migration-focused environment
- Desirable experience with CI/CD pipelines or DevOps practices related to migrations
- Understanding of modernization concepts related to legacy applications (APIs, microservices)
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance existing PowerBuilder client-server applications
- Analyze legacy PowerBuilder code to identify integration points, dependencies, and performance issues
- Refactor PowerBuilder components for compatibility with Azure databases and services
- Collaborate with the cloud engineering team on migrating PowerBuilder applications to Azure
- Participate in re-platforming tasks, including database migration to Azure SQL and adapting configurations for Azure
- Ensure seamless authentication and connectivity post-migration
- Validate and stabilize applications after migration to Azure
- Design, optimize, and maintain SQL databases pre and post-migration
- Rewrite and optimize SQL queries and procedures for improved cloud performance
- Implement effective indexing and partitioning strategies for Azure SQL platforms
- Assist in modernizing components that integrate with PowerBuilder applications
- Contribute to architectural decisions involving Azure services
- Conduct root cause analysis for cloud-related issues and support thorough testing protocols
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including analysts, architects, and project members to facilitate smooth migrations
- Document technical migration steps and requirements thoroughly

This role involves providing crucial expertise in modernizing legacy applications and transitioning them to Microsoft Azure. We offer a hybrid work schedule from Tuesday to Thursday, with hours from 8:30 AM to 5 PM.
