Requirements

Must:
- Minimum of three years technical experience in a production setting at an internet service provider, telecommunications carrier, network service provider, or similar consultancy role. - Background in servicing business clients in either a direct or supportive capacity. - Proficient in the design, configuration, and upgrades of network components. - Comprehensive experience with routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, ISIS, and RIP, plus route-policy adjustments. - Working knowledge of traffic and capacity management in WAN environments. - Familiarity with network security practices. - Ability to plan, oversee, and manage concurrent projects efficiently. - Strong autonomous working capabilities. - Excellent oral and written communication skills. - Experience configuring WAN routers, LAN switches, and diverse telecommunications devices. - Practical experience in WAN/LAN internetworking. - Proficient in user-level UNIX and PC skills along with WAN circuit provisioning and troubleshooting. - In-depth understanding of routing and IP transport. - Knowledge of IP application protocols such as SMTP, POP, FTP, HTTP, and DNS. - Familiarity with LAN media, protocols, and switching technologies, including Gigabit and Fast Ethernet. - Experience with Spanning Tree Protocol. - Experience in a DOCSIS cable environment is a plus. - Bachelors degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Internet Technology or equivalent experience required.

Responsibilities

- Develop, review, and document configurations for routers, switches, and links based on established standards and plans. - Conduct IP traffic analysis and engineering, troubleshooting faults and providing solutions. - Assess new technologies, methods, and products. - Execute the implementation of new product offerings and enhancements. - Enhance network security, route policies, traffic management, and hardware utilization. - Oversee all phases of infrastructure implementation and upgrades. - Engage in hands-on configuration and activation of network devices and links. - Act as the technical point of contact for external network relationships (BGP) with vendors, peers, and customers. - Manage tasks effectively with field staff and vendors. - Maintain a strong focus on execution and deadlines. - Provide ongoing operational support for IP networks. - Monitor and analyze network performance continuously. - Identify network challenges; research and implement effective solutions. - Manage issues escalated from response engineering staff comprehensively. - Participate in a 24/7 rotating on-call schedule; may require occasional overnight maintenance work.
