Requirements
Must:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Over 5 years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment.
- A minimum of 4 years in Facilities Management.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in the data center.
- Operate independently with minimal direct oversight.
- Act as an escalation point for all facility-related issues within the data center, escalating to the Data Center Facility Manager as necessary.
- Conduct root cause analysis of equipment failures.
- Troubleshoot and report on facility and data server-level events in accordance with internal service level agreements.
- Develop and implement new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
- Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians.
- Ensure all safety protocols are observed by both vendor and Amazon staff.
- Ensure compliance with security procedures for vendor and Amazon personnel.
- Utilize internal Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage building workflows.
- Communicate complex technical information effectively to non-technical audiences.
- Regularly use the Microsoft Office Suite and other tools such as PDF, QUIP, and various dashboards and scheduling applications.
- Instruct others in scheduling and ticketing while providing mentorship in problem-solving.

Supporting all AWS data centers alongside the necessary servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment, our goal is to provide uninterrupted access to the innovations our customers depend on. As a member of our South Bend Data Center Engineering Operations Team, you will be engaged in maintaining the vital physical infrastructure that substantiates Amazon Web Services. Our team ensures that the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems within the data center function at 100% availability, delivering top-notch customer service to internal teams. In the role of Night Shift Data Center Chief Engineer (CE), you will ensure that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment operates efficiently. This includes planned maintenance, corrective work, and responding to emergencies. You will act as a technical expert, reporting to the siteβs Data Center Facility Manager while collaborating with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians and third-party vendors. We expect you to manage small to medium impact projects from inception to completion, often working independently but also collaborating with various support groups. Key responsibilities include developing project milestones, tracking costs, and documenting outcomes for future application across other facilities to drive innovation and enhance resiliency while minimizing operational costs. Furthermore, as CE, you will guide and mentor Engineering Operations Technicians (EOTs) in troubleshooting hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment. You will implement site-specific training initiatives for equipment, including but not limited to standby diesel generators, switchgear, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and building automation systems.
