Requirements
Must:
I am looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:
- A minimum of 6 years of experience managing staff, consultants, or vendors, as well as 6 years of design experience in commercial, industrial, or other complex technical projects.
- At least 7 years of experience in large-scale Mission Critical facility design, with 5 years of leading sub-consultants and project teams.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction, or an MBA.
- Preferred qualifications include a Professional Engineering or Architecture License, with 3 or more years of relevant large-scale Data Center facility design experience, and over 10 years in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance.
- The ability to convey complex technical issues to senior leadership or non-engineers, develop basic business case financial projections, and establish performance metrics is also essential.
- Experience in negotiating with regulatory bodies regarding deviations from building codes and construction change orders is advantageous.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will expect you to:
- Lead project teams consisting of discipline leads to ensure high-quality and globally consistent data center designs in the Americas, all within set schedule and budget constraints while maintaining superior quality.
- Influence internal stakeholders and external consultants to manage program-wide design changes effectively.
- Handle escalations from the design team and collaborate with procurement, construction partners, and external consultants.
- Identify impacted disciplines in design challenges to facilitate cross-disciplinary design decisions.
- Understand design development, change management, permitting (in coordination with AHJs), and lifecycle implementation.
- Apply project management skills involving critical path scheduling, risk management, quality management, and cost management.
- Manage design consultants, including procurement, contracting, deliverables, and payments.
- Maintain effective communication with AWS Leadership and external project partners, including tracking and reporting metrics related to project schedules, costs, and quality.
- Innovate to discover solutions that reduce construction change orders without compromising quality or reliability.
- Prioritize competing priorities and construct effective resolution frameworks when faced with uncertainties.
- Drive speed, quality, and simplification by minimizing rework loops, automating manual efforts, streamlining processes, and standardizing practices.
- Develop global best practice documentation and promote sharing across regions.
- Inspire others to achieve exceptional quality in a rapidly evolving and deadline-driven environment.
- Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, and construction reviews, with expected travel up to 25%, which may include international trips.
