Requirements
Must:
- U.S. Citizen capable of passing a CBP background investigation:
- 3-year felony conviction scrutiny
- 1-year illegal drug usage check
- 1-year misconduct review (e.g., theft or fraud)
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Over 7 years of professional software development experience
- More than 5 years specializing in Java backend development
- At least 3 years of practical experience with Spring Boot
- Proficient in Apache Kafka, including:
- Producer & Consumer APIs
- Kafka Streams
- Understanding of topics, partitions, consumer groups, offsets
- Knowledge of Schema Registry (schema evolution & governance)
- Strong implementation experience of Kafka with the Spring Framework
- Familiarity with event-driven architecture and microservices design patterns
- Proficient in relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle)
- Experience with ORM frameworks (Spring Data JPA, Hibernate)
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform)
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiar with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and debugging skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy custom software and database applications across both legacy and modern systems
- Construct and maintain event-driven, distributed systems utilizing Kafka-based architectures
- Engage with Agile Scrum teams to produce high-quality software within short sprint cycles
- Take part in sprint planning, backlog grooming, testing, demonstrations, retrospectives, and product releases
- Examine complex technical issues and create scalable, innovative solutions
- Ensure adherence to product quality, timeliness, and performance benchmarks
- Contribute to engineering protocols and architectural best practices
- Mentor junior developers, fostering team growth and development
Description
We are excited to announce an immediate opening for a Java Kafka Developer to become a part of our Agile Scrum team supporting a federal program based in Ashburn, VA. This position emphasizes backend development within an event-driven, microservices architecture, aimed at delivering releasable software in concise sprint intervals. We offer a hybrid work model allowing 1 to 2 days onsite and 3 to 4 days remote, along with competitive benefits and a collaborative team environment.
