Requirements
Must:
- We require at least 1 year of epidemiology experience, gained in an academic setting or within a state or local health department.
- We require an associate degree.
- We look for hands-on experience with statistical and data analysis tools, including SAS, STATA, R, and SPSS.
- We value practical knowledge of biostatistics, epidemiology methods, and public health surveillance practices.
- We need strong attention to data quality, accuracy, and timely delivery of work products.
Responsibilities
- We support the planning, design, and management of injury surveillance and reporting systems for unintentional injuries such as drug overdoses and firearm-related injuries.
- We build analytic datasets through data extraction, cleansing, matching and merging records, and coding variables.
- We document workflows, procedures, and coding logic in codebooks, protocols, and guidance materials.
- We maintain data quality and integrity by applying automated data processing methods and using statistical software packages.
- We advise agency staff on biostatistical and epidemiological approaches and help coordinate data linkages across programs.
- We contribute to public health surveillance, reporting, monitoring and evaluation, predictive modeling, and data dissemination efforts.
- We ensure reports are submitted accurately and on time, with a very low error rate.
- We perform our work in person and support ongoing activities at our health department.
Description
We are the DC Department of Health, specifically our Center for Policy Planning and Evaluation, and we provide technical assistance in statistical analysis, study design, and predictive modeling to support public health surveillance, reporting, monitoring and evaluation, and data dissemination. This is a temporary, in-person role with an expected schedule of 40 hours per week and pay of $30.84 per hour. We are seeking someone who can contribute to our ongoing injury surveillance work and collaborate with our teams to strengthen data-driven public health programs.
