Requirements

Must:
- Bachelors or advanced degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related engineering discipline - At least 6 years of experience in a software engineering capacity - Proficiency in Java with Object-Oriented design and development skills, including knowledge of multi-threaded, multi-processor networked and distributed systems and architectures - Familiarity with Hardware-Software interfaces, embedded software development, and/or robotics systems - Experience in creating physics-based simulations at the vehicle or sub-system level, encompassing component simulation/emulation and physics, dynamics, and orbital mechanics - Basic understanding of space systems, including spacecraft subsystems and their interactions (e.g., GN&C, CDH/flight computer, power systems, communications, payloads) - Willingness to learn and utilize Python, C, C++, FORTRAN, and/or Matlab for porting critical code, along with JSON and XML files commonly used for data exchange and API definitions - Capability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance; U.S. citizenship is necessary to acquire a security clearance.

Responsibilities

- Create advanced, high-performance, production-ready modeling and simulation (M&S) software to address complex challenges posed by our clients - Develop and adjust algorithms to improve simulation capabilities supporting future satellite systems and architectures, interfacing with flight and flight-like satellite hardware and software - Port scientific, engineering, and physics-based modeling code and algorithms from technical documents, Matlab, Python, and Excel to Java software, integrating legacy C, C++, and Fortran code into tool chains or distributed simulation frameworks - Maintain and advance Java-based distributed simulation frameworks featuring multi-threaded architectures, and create new distributed simulation federates, including pre- and post-simulation data processing and visualization tools - Conduct analyses using software developed within VMAS to respond to inquiries regarding future satellite systems and architectures - Engage in full software development life cycle activities, collaborating with other developers on design, implementation, maintenance, and assist in preparing technical documentation and user guides - Work within cross-disciplinary teams to tackle intricate problems and provide guidance, advice, and mentorship to staff with expertise in non-software fields and limited software engineering background.
