Requirements

Must:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field - Over 8 years of experience in data engineering, distributed systems, or platform architecture - At least 2 years of technical leadership or people management experience - Proven capability in designing large-scale distributed data systems - Experience with real-time data processing and event-driven systems - Strong communication skills for both technical and executive audiences - Familiarity with a variety of technologies, including: - Distributed Messaging Tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Apache Kafka, Pulsar, Kinesis) - Data virtualization solutions (e.g., Presto) - Database technologies (e.g., SQL like PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases like Cassandra, DynamoDB, MongoDB) - Data Management and Governance tools (e.g., Apache Atlas, OpenMetadata) - Security and access control frameworks (e.g., Keycloak) - Willingness to travel occasionally for work or customer visits - Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship

Responsibilities

- Provide technical leadership for the modernization of data platforms - Collaborate with data and software architects, program managers, and external stakeholders - Communicate updates, risks, and achievements to leadership - Oversee the creation of data integration pipelines and services - Ensure interoperability among diverse systems and data sources - Advocate for standardized interfaces, schemas, and governance practices - Facilitate both real-time and batch data exchange capabilities - Encourage the adoption of modern data engineering methodologies and tools - Manage the transition from outdated systems to contemporary data architectures - Introduce automation, DevOps, and DataOps methodologies - Identify and implement opportunities for enhancing efficiency and mission success - Build and develop a team of data architects, engineers, and platform specialists (approximately 6-10 staff) - Set the technical direction, priorities, and performance standards for the team - Mentor team members to cultivate deep expertise in distributed systems and advanced data platforms - Foster a culture that emphasizes innovation, collaboration, and engineering excellence - Support workforce training and strategic hiring initiatives - Partner with program leadership, clients, and broader enterprise stakeholders - Translate mission requirements into actionable technical roadmaps and deliverables - Assist in proposal development, technical evaluations, and executive briefings - Coordinate efforts across software, AI/ML, cybersecurity, cloud, and domain engineering teams
