Requirements
Must:
- A minimum of a bachelors degree in Engineering is typically required, a related masters degree is preferred
- Generally 10-15 years of relevant experience
- Proven experience with flight or embedded software in human spaceflight, aerospace, or safety-critical environments
- Understanding of hazard analysis processes, fault management, and identifying failure modes for software-controlled systems
- Familiarity with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA/FMECA) and hazard tracking systems
- Knowledge of NASAs safety and reliability processes, including hazard reports and software safety assessments
- Strong familiarity with Linux/Unix environments as well as real-time operating systems (RTOS)
- Proficient in C/C++ and scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or TCL
- Exceptional analytical, communication, and coordination abilities with a strong customer service orientation
- Self-motivated individual capable of mastering complex system knowledge and working autonomously or collaboratively
Responsibilities
- Acquire expertise in Commercial Crew flight software systems, including avionics integration and operations of crewed spacecraft
- Assist in the development, verification, and validation of flight and ground software that is safety-critical
- Collaborate within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) to ensure software reliability, compliance with human-rating, and safety assurance across NASA and commercial partners such as SpaceX and Boeing
- Identify, document, and address risks, hazards, anomalies, and potential failure modes, offering data-driven suggestions
- Contribute to hazard analysis, fault management design, and conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA/FMECA) for flight software systems
- Engage in software design reviews, safety evaluations, and flight readiness assessments
- Relay progress, findings, and technical risks to management and interdisciplinary teams
- Operate in an Agile, fast-paced environment that supports iterative development and integration
- Undertake additional tasks as necessary to support launch and mission objectives
