Requirements
Must:
- Typically requires a minimum of a bachelors degree in Engineering along with 5-10 years of relevant experience.
- Proficient in generating drawings and performing dimensional tolerance analysis, including thermal effects, while supporting design using standard hand calculations for fit, function, and structural integrity.
- A minimum of 2-5 years of hands-on design experience is essential.
- At least 1-5 years of experience using solid modeling CAD software (Creo preferred).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
- Familiarity with machine shop processes and knowledge of structural and thermal analysis during hardware development are required.
- Capability to support shift work during lengthy test operations is a must.
Responsibilities
- Support activities at the Johnson Space Center related to the International Space Station and broader space exploration initiatives.
- Collaborate within a team to analyze client requirements and formulate design solutions.
- Design, develop, and test technical products and systems, including the implementation and analysis phases.
- Create unique test fixtures and methodologies for different testing programs.
- Develop essential system documentation such as operational procedures and hazard assessments.
- Uphold high technical standards across all tasks to ensure exceptional quality in technical products, including test setups and documentation.
- Conduct engineering evaluations of design concepts.
- Execute extensive testing on space hardware.
- Prepare and present design proposals during various design review sessions using MS Word and PowerPoint.
- Generate engineering drawings that comply with applicable standards.
- Carry out dimensional fit analysis, taking thermal effects into account.
- Perform functional and sizing structural analyses, as necessary.
- Produce additional required design documentation.
- Undertake other assigned responsibilities as needed.
